Jessica Townsend, LCSW

(in-person & virtual sessions)

My name is Jessica Townsend (she/they). I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and owner of Blue Sage Counseling, PLLC. I believe therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the client and therapist alike. As a relational and trauma-informed therapist, cultivating trust, safety and comfort during sessions is always top of mind. Whether we are aware of it or not, often our past experiences impact our current and future selves. It is for this reason that I use the lens of psychoanalytic and attachment theories to explore present concerns. I also infuse methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/CBT (i.e. thoughts influence our feelings which influence our behavior/actions), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy/DBT (a type of cognitive behavioral therapy), mindfulness, feminist theory and somatic experiencing methods (trained through Somatic Experiencing International), into sessions. I typically work with those who feel stuck due to anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship struggles, ADHD and grief/loss, including support for individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community. My communication style is compassionate, yet direct and honest, with a bit of humor. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all; therefore, I work collaboratively with clients and tailor sessions to fit individual client goals.

I’ve had the opportunity to work in a wide variety of settings aside from psychotherapy, including community mental health, hospice, skilled nursing facilities and outpatient dialysis.

When I’m not working, I enjoy doing anything creative/artsy, practicing yoga, unwinding in nature, traveling, lounging on the couch with a good t.v. show or movie, reading and spending time with my two rescue dogs, partner and friends.

Amy Blue, LCSW

(virtual sessions only)

My name is Amy Blue, LCSW (she/her). My hope as a therapist is to help others reach their full potential at any phase of life. I enjoy supporting those who find themselves entering uncharted territory, whether that be new moms navigating all of the changes that motherhood brings, job or relocation transitions, losing a loved one, caring for an elderly/ill family member, or even those at the end of life.

When it come to loss and grief, the impact can be devastating; picking oneself up after a loss can feel impossible. I am here to help individuals create a “new normal” way of living without compromising their values and abilities.

I also provide support to caregivers of older adults or those who are terminally ill. Taking care of a loved one is a uniquely challenging experience. Those who care for loved ones with complicated medical issues who require around-the-clock care deserve time, respect, and validation, which I can provide in a compassionate manner. It is possible to be the best version of oneself while being a caregiver.

I am a certified Geriatric Specialist and University of Michigan McGregor Geriatric Fellow, as well as a Certified Dementia Practitioner. I gained a wide array of experience while working in hospice, the Veteran's Administration, and community non-profits. I practice reframing and believe in shifting towards a new perspective to rebuild after unexpected or stressful transitional periods. I offer a non-judgmental, safe place to process emotions through whatever stage in life you may find yourself.
